A plug valve is a type of valve that controls the flow of fluid through a cylindrical or conically tapered plug with one or more passages or ports through it. Plug valves consist of a cylindrical or tapered plug with one or more passageways (ports) passing through it. The plug can be rotated inside the valve body to control the flow of fluid.
